{Top 4} Quietest 5000 BTU Window Air Conditioners in 2024

As the summer heat sets in, we all eagerly turn to our trusty air conditioners to keep a comfortable environment indoors.

However, there’s nothing more frustrating than when your AC unit starts making loud noises, disrupting the peace and making it difficult to stay in the room.

So if you are looking for a quiet window ac for a small size room then you are where you should be.

In this listicle, I’ve curated a selection of quietest 5000 BTU window air conditioners that have passed the test for both cooling efficiency and noise levels. Let’s take a look…

Reasons to buy:
  • Provide excellent cooling for smaller spaces
  • Relatively energy efficient
  • Easy to install and use
Reasons to avoid:
  • No remote
  • Adjusting its louvers can be tricky

If you are in search of a quiet 5,000 BTU window air conditioner, the Frigidaire FFRA051WAE stands out as one of the quietest units available with cooling power of 5,000 BTU. It operates at around 52 dB on the low setting, and I observed that on the high setting, the noise level was close to 60 dB.

Setting it up was overall easy, but I encountered a small problem due to the unit’s small size. Its design made it a bit tricky to position it exactly in the middle of the window sill. This made it a bit harder to reach and clean the air filter, which comes out from the side.

Moreover, its cooling performance is excellent, surpassing any other 5,000 BTU window AC unit tested in 2024. In just one hour of running continuously on mid settings, it dropped the room temperature by a whopping 10 degrees Fahrenheit – impressive, right?

In addition to this, it is also very efficient, with a SEER rating of 11, making it stand out from the rest.

However, adjusting its louvers was a little bit tricky for me because I have used this type of adjustable louvers very infrequently. Other than that, it also doesn’t have a remote, which is an absolute drawback. I didn’t find any other shortcomings in this unit.

Comparing it to my previous air conditioner experiences, the Frigidaire FFRA051WAE is a reliable and affordable option, providing a cool and comfortable environment.

Reasons to buy:
  • User-Friendly Installation: Simple setup for standard window frames
  • Very energy efficient
  • Suitable for smaller living areas
Reasons to avoid:
  • Average cooling
  • No remote control included
  • Louvers only adjust horizontally

The Midea MAW05M1BWT is one of the most efficient 5,000 BTU window air conditioners we have tested so far. This unit managed to reduce the operating cost by $12 compared to our 8,000 BTU AC unit.

Speaking about its cooling performance, I would say it is slightly better than average, reducing the temperature by 7 degrees Fahrenheit in an hour.

This is not that impressive considering it is a Midea unit. The installation was very easy for me, suitable for windows 23”-36” wide and a minimum of 13” high, which is slightly smaller than average.

Now, let’s address the elephant in the room – noise. It can be counted among quiet window AC units as it operates under 63 dB. However, it is a little higher than other Midea AC units.

Anyway, while testing it, when I felt a slightly chilly cool air on my face, I thought to move the louvers down a little, but guess what?

It doesn’t adjust up and down, only left and right, which is definitely a significant drawback. Another huge drawback is that it has no remote. I mean, seriously, this is something that I didn’t even think of, and of course, it kills the convenience.

Reasons to buy:
  • Provide powerful and efficient cooling
  • Easy installation process, hassle-free setup
  • Operates under 59 dB
  • Excellent build quality
Reasons to avoid:
  • Occasional thermostat inaccuracies require manual adjustments
  • Limited control over air direction
  • Some noise emitted during constant operation

The GE AHEC05AC window air conditioner is my top recommendation for the quietest 5,000 BTU window air conditioner. Performance-wise, this unit delivers on its promises. Its cooling power is impressive, and it cools very quickly.

Even during the hottest days of summer, it kept my room comfortably cool without fail. Additionally, the adjustable fan speeds provided flexibility to adapt to varying conditions, ensuring optimal comfort throughout the day and night.

One feature that I like the most about this unit is its relatively low noise level. It is quieter than all the other window air conditioners mentioned in this list.

However, our team has sometimes experienced a rattling noise from this unit, which is not constant but suddenly becomes noticeable when running on high settings for long hours.

Nonetheless, our team measured a noise level of around 58 dB on high settings and around 54 dB on low settings.

Other than that, I did notice a slight issue with the thermostat’s accuracy, as it occasionally required manual adjustments to maintain the desired temperature.

While this was a minor inconvenience, it did not significantly detract from the overall performance of the air conditioner.

Reasons to buy:
  • Super affordable
  • Little bit efficient
  • Provides better cooling respectively
Reasons to avoid:
  • Poor durability

If you’re in search of a quiet 5,000 BTU window air conditioner on a tight budget, this unit is worth considering. It’s capable of cooling a 150 square foot space, and while its cooling power isn’t the absolute best, it outperforms some pricier units.

I ran this unit for nearly 2 hours when the inside temperature was around 83 degrees Fahrenheit, and it impressively dropped the temperature by 13 degrees in that time frame. This is quite impressive, especially considering its super affordable price tag.

However, it does have a serious issue with its Wi-Fi connection; it frequently gets disconnected, which can be very frustrating. In terms of noise, it’s relatively quiet but not the quietest; I noticed a noise level of 59 dB on a setting slightly below high.

However, given its cooling capacity, the noise is somewhat acceptable. One drawback is that its build quality isn’t the strongest; it can easily get damaged when moving it to the window from just a 7-inch height, causing the corners to fade.

Furthermore, it’s moderately energy-efficient, with a CEER rating of 11, which is on the higher side, and it draws just 4.0 amps.

As mentioned earlier, it’s very affordable; as of today (February 7, 2024), its price on Amazon is currently $92, which is incredibly low.

Conclusion

In conclusion, finding the quietest 5000 BTU window air conditioner can significantly enhance your indoor comfort during the scorching summer months. Each unit reviewed here has its own set of pros and cons, catering to different preferences and budgets.

The Midea MAW05M1BWT impresses with its energy efficiency and relatively quiet operation, although the lack of a remote control and limited louvers adjustment may pose some inconvenience.

On the other hand, the Frigidaire FFRA051WAE stands out for its excellent cooling performance and efficiency, despite the absence of a remote and some minor challenges in louvers adjustment.

The GE AHEC05AC shines with its efficient cooling power and low noise levels, although occasional thermostat inaccuracies may require manual adjustments.

Lastly, the Emerson EARC5MD1 offers affordability and decent cooling capacity, but it’s Wi-Fi connectivity issues and durability concerns should be considered.

So in my opinion, the best quiet 5000 btu window air conditioner is GE AHEC05AC. If you are really looking for one then this would be my first recommendation for you.
