Apart from the low noise level, its design is also very attractive. It features an unique U-shaped design that helps distribute cool air evenly throughout the room, ensuring that every corner is cooled comfortably. Well, this GE Profile is one of the quietest air conditioner in this list of {Top 8} quietest window air conditioners. Its noise level is just 40dB which is downright low as a library and this is the reason GE calls this unit an ultra quiet window ac, and it would be a great option for those looking for a Noiseless 6000 BTU window air conditioner, but it might not be.

The GE Profile PHC06LY is suitable for cooling rooms up to 250 square feet. It is built-in Wi-Fi, powered by the SmartHQ app, which gives you the ability to create schedules, check energy usage and more.
In addition, this unit features three fan speeds and four cooling modes, providing total flexibility with optimal home comfort and also includes Eco Mode that automatically shuts off the fan and compressor, saving energy on utilities.
However, this unit is not efficient. While testing we noticed that it consumed 12.9A, and it was not providing enough cooling. Previously, the room temperature was 76.7°F and after running it for an hour the temperature only drops by 8°F, that’s too bad.
While testing this GE Profile PHC06LY air conditioner, I also faced the problem of connecting to Wi-Fi. To be honest, it took more than 15 minutes to connect but just after 2 minutes it stopped working then I gave up because I was frustrated with this.
Overall, the unit would be an option if you are looking for a quiet air conditioner simply because its noise level is low. But the other factors are negligible. And it has a poor rating of 4.1 out of 5.0 because of its weaknesses. Most critical reviews included this; Its build quality is poor and some users also reported that they are having problems with Wi-Fi, the same issue that I found.

Well this Tosot’s 8,000 BTU window air conditioner is perfect for cooling up to 350 square feet. We tested its cooling performance in a 180-square-foot room and it does a really good job at this. Initially, the room temperature was about 83°F and in 1 hour and the room temperature comes down to 64.4°F.
One of the best thing of this TOSOT 8,000 BTU Window AC unit that its noise level is quiet. It recorded a noise level of just 42dB when running on low settings and went up to 50.7dB on high settings. However, after using this unit for half a year, I notice a hissing and water like sound from this window ac, but it was not annoying or disruptive.

Anyway, another thing that I personally like the most about this unit is its design, trust me its design is super sexy. In addition, this window AC unit features adjustable wind movers that let you customize the direction of the airflow where you want it to be.

As air filters remove impurities from the air, such as dust, pollen, and pet dander, it becomes necessary to clean them regularly to maintain the performance, efficiency and prevent the blockage of cold air from the unit.
Furthermore, it is also equipped with dehumidification feature that removes up to 1.2 liters of moisture/hour, that helps prevent mold growth in the unit. The unit is also packed with an iFeel Smart mode. This mode adjusts the cooling settings automatically to provide the most comfortable level of cooling. However, the remote for this unit failed after just 9 months of use. I began experiencing issues with it around the 6th month, and by the end of the 9th month, it completely stopped working.
Overall, the unit is good. It is loaded with a bunch of features and has a rating of 4.2 out of 5.0 on Amazon. However, there are some issues with this air conditioner and all those issues that I experience with this unit was pretty similar to its users that rated this 1,2 and 3 star.

I can’t believe I haven’t included this windmill air conditioner on this list yet, and I think I don’t need to tell you how cool the design of this window unit is. You can see it in the above images. And when I was reading its reviews, I found that 27% people praised its design.
The cooling power of this windmill air-conditioner is 8,300 BTU which can provide cooling to an area of 350 square feet. This unit is quite simple and easy to set up as compared to other units in this list. I notice that it took me about 25 minutes to set up this unit. However, the AC unit is quite heavy. I needed to take help from my friend to install it.

Talking about its performance, it is superb! We tested it in our test room which is of 180 square feet and after running it for an hour, it reduced the room temperature by 21.8 degrees Fahrenheit, impressive! And at the same time I checked its noise level and it was 51dB.
Plus, it’s Wi-Fi enabled, and offers a mobile app for both iOS and Android. I installed the app on my smartphone using the QR code on the box. I didn’t notice any issues when connecting it to Wi-Fi, but the options were very similar to the remote, you can do everything with the remote that you can do with its app.
Needless to say, if you are sure that this is what you are looking for, then you can consider it. In my opinion, this is the best window air conditioner for 350 sq. ft. space.

“GE is a brand known for its high quality and quiet operation AC unit” Is it right? Definitely! When it comes to ultra-quiet window AC on the market, the GE Serentiy Series AHQQ06LX is counted among them. This 6,000 BTU unit is capable of cooling small rooms up to 250 square feet.
The noise level is only 43 decibels, which is equivalent to a library or light rain. It is super easy to install, it takes the least amount of time to install as compared to other units on this list. It provide better cooling than both of them, the GE Profile PHC06LY and the Haier Electronic ESAQ406TZ. The unit also features three cooling speeds, making it easy to customize your cooling experience.
All aspects considered, this unit is an ideal cooling solution for small rooms. But I notice that the unit does not have strong corners. Though, it has a rating of 4.3 out of 5.0, which is credible but not very impressive.
So whether you’re looking for an efficient or quiet window ac unit or just want to cool your home quickly and calmly, the GE Serentiy Series AHQQ06LX is a great choice that you can go for. However, its price is a bit steep, at almost $400, which is not a suitable price point for this unit.

If you’re in search of a powerful quietest window air conditioner for large room, then the Emerson Quiet Kool EARC15RE1 is a nice choice. This AC provides exceptional cooling performance, making it a worthwhile investment for your home.
First off, let’s talk about installation. While this unit is is pretty heavy so it will require two people to lift and install, it can be seamlessly integrated into your space through a window. With the accordion slides and proper insulation, I achieved a tight seal, eliminating any gaps or dead air spots.
Now, let’s get to the important part—cooling. This AC is a powerhouse with its 15,000 BTU capacity, and as mentioned earlier, it is made for up to 700 square foot of space, but I installed it in my 850 and it cools its down efficiently. Even on scorching hot and humid days, it kept my space frosty at 58°F, while the living room and kitchen stayed comfortably cool at around 66°F. The removal of excess humidity was notable, with effective drainage outside.
One impressive feature of this unit is the smart capabilities. Controlling the AC from my smartphone, whether inside or outside the house, was a fun. No more struggling with limited-range remotes! However, setting up the network connection took a few attempts, and it is not that easy compared to other models such as Midea U MAW08V1QWT.

When it comes to quiet air window air conditioners for 1,000 sq. ft. room size, the LG LW1817IVSM stands out as a top performer. As an owner of multiple window AC units over the years, this unit is still installed in my 850 sq. ft. space.
The LG LW1817IVSM excels in keeping that space comfortably cool. Even on its lowest cool setting, it really does a nice job of maintaining a pleasant temperature. The dehumidifying ‘dry’ mode is a particularly intriguing feature, as it turns off the compressor once the desired temperature is reached, saving energy in the process. However, it requires a low 230 volts to operate which might be an issue for you. And also the unit is very heavy, so you will need someone to help you to install it safely.
The great thing about this LG model is its quiet operation. The variable speed brushless DC fan motor operates smoothly, delivering a pleasant ramping up and down of fan speeds.
Now, let me clear one thing, the unit is considered quiet because there are very few window air conditioners with that much cooling power and such low noise. And also its price is also quite low comparatively.
Furthermore, the LG LW1817IVSM has a sleek and modern design with clean lines and user-friendly controls. While the unit offers Wi-Fi capability, I found it to be unreliable and limited to 2.4 GHz networks, which can be disappointing for you.

Why should you choose a Quiet Window Air-Conditioner?
Choosing a quiet window air-conditioner is a win-win situation.
We’ve got some reasons why a quiet window aircon should be your first choice, and all of these reasons are sourced from people who have quiet window units.
They offer a peace of mind:
The most obvious advantage of having a quiet window ac is being able to watch TV, listen to music, or simply relax without the background of a noisy air conditioner. They also help you sleep better at night and reduce distractions when you are trying to concentrate on activities like reading, studying or working.
To avoid upsetting your neighbor:
If you live in an apartment, it’s important that the noise your unit generates doesn’t disturb your neighbors, so that you won’t have any angry tenants knocking on your door and telling you to turn off your unit. In this case, it would be great to go with a quiet window AC unit.
To cool a recording studio:
If you’re someone who deals with audio recording or any sound-related activities, having a window AC that operates at a low noise level is an absolute must.
Imagine you’re in your creative space, setting up your equipment, getting ready to dive into the magic of sound. But wait! As soon as you turn on your window AC, it unleashes a symphony of clunks, whirrs, and rattles, completely hijacking your recording session. It’s like an unwanted guest crashing your party.
That’s where a low-noise window AC comes to the rescue. It’s like having a stealthy audio assistant, silently working in the background to cool your space without interfering with your creative flow.
How much do window air conditioners cost?
The cost of a window air conditioner can cost anywhere from $150 to $1000. But it depends on a few factors.
- First off, the brand which impacts the most in my opinion. Some brands are highly reputable, known for their top-notch quality, which can make them a bit pricier.
- Next is the cooling capacity or power, which is measured in BTUs (British Thermal Units). Usually, the higher the BTU rating, the larger the area it can cool. And naturally, window ac with higher cooling power tend to be pricey than the one with less cooling power.
- Lastly, additional features can also affect the cost. You must have noticed that some air conditioners come with fancy extras like programmable timers, or even smart features that allow you to control them with your phone. These added features can bump up the price a bit.
How many decibels is a quiet window air conditioner?
Consumer Reports states that quiet window air conditioners typically generate noise levels ranging from 50 to 60 decibels (dB) on average. Generally, any window AC unit producing noise below 60 dB is considered quiet.
Do high BTU window ac make more noise?
Well, the BTU (British Thermal Units) rating of a window AC unit does not directly determine the amount of noise it produces. The BTU rating primarily indicates the cooling capacity of the unit, not its noise level. While it’s true that larger BTU units may have more powerful fans to accommodate their cooling capacity, it does not necessarily mean they will produce more noise.
Is there any change in the working mechanism of a quiet window ac?
The working mechanism of a quiet window AC is not fundamentally different from that of a regular window AC. The difference lies primarily in the design and engineering of the unit to minimize noise production.
Manufacturers employ various techniques such as improved insulation, advanced fan blade designs, and vibration dampening technologies to reduce noise levels.
These modifications aim to achieve a quieter operation without sacrificing the cooling efficiency of the unit In essence, while the goal is to achieve quieter operation, the core functionality and principles of cooling remain the same in a quiet window AC.
Are there any difference between quiet window AC units vs traditional/Regular units?
When comparing quiet window air conditioner units to regular or traditional units, there are a few key differences to consider.
- Noise Level: The most notable distinction is the noise level. Quiet window AC units are specifically designed to minimize noise production, resulting in a more peaceful and comfortable environment. Regular or traditional units may produce higher noise levels during operation.
- Design and Engineering: Quiet window AC units often incorporate advanced design features, such as improved insulation, vibration dampening technologies, and specialized fan blade designs. These modifications help reduce noise without compromising the cooling efficiency of the unit.
- Price: Quiet window AC units may come at a slightly higher price point compared to regular units due to their specialized design and engineering aimed at noise reduction. However, as mentioned earlier, the cost difference can vary based on factors such as brand, features, and cooling capacity.
Are silent window air conditioners reliable?
Silent window air conditioners are generally reliable. Their reliability is not solely based on their noise level but on factors such as component quality, manufacturing standards, and brand reputation.
Manufacturers ensure that silent units undergo the same rigorous testing as regular ones. To assess reliability, consider brand reputation, customer reviews, warranty coverage, and certifications.
No appliance is 100% reliable, but choosing a reputable brand, following maintenance guidelines, and conducting thorough research can increase the likelihood of owning a reliable silent window air conditioner.
Things to consider when choosing a quiet window AC unit
Choosing the best and quietest window air conditioner is all about finding an efficient and effective way to keep your space cool during the hot summer months. Here are some of the key factors that you should consider while choosing a silent window window AC unit.
1. Noise level
When selecting a quiet window air conditioner, the noise level is the most important factor to consider. Sound levels are measured in decibels (dB). Most window AC units range from 33 to 67 dB.
It is advisable to choose a unit with a noise level below 60 dB, as anything below this threshold is considered quiet. In general, the lower the dB rating, the quieter the air conditioner will be.
2. Energy Efficiency
According to EnergyStar.gov, window air-conditioners and heat pumps are two of America’s most energy-efficient home appliances. To get the most bang for your buck, when it comes to saving energy on cooling costs, make sure to choose an Energy Star-certified model.
Look for units with the Energy Star label. This label indicates that these products meet strict guidelines set by the US Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Energy.
Look for AC that has an EER rating of at least 8. The higher an air conditioner’s EER, the more efficient.
- EER rating below 8: Low Energy-Efficiency.
- EER rating between 8 to 10: Norm Energy-Efficiency.
- EER rating 10 or more: Fantastic Energy-Efficiency.
But not all air conditioner sellers mention the EER rating. In this case take a look at customer ratings for energy efficiency in the “Rating by Features” section. If the rating is more than 4 out of 5.0 then it is good.
3. Cooling Power
Determining the appropriate cooling power is crucial when selecting a window air conditioner, especially a quiet one. If you choose an AC unit that is too small for your room, it won’t effectively cool the space.
Conversely, choosing for a unit with excessive cooling capacity for your room size will consume more energy, leading to higher electricity bills.
Additionally, larger AC units with higher cooling power tend to generate more noise due to increased airflow. Therefore, it’s important to select an air conditioner with the appropriate cooling power to balance efficiency and noise level.
BTU rating according to your room size.
Room Size | Capacity of a Window Air-Conditioner (For silent operation) |
200 sq. ft. | 6,000 BTU |
300 sq. ft. | 9,000 BTU |
400 sq. ft. | 12,000 BTU |
500 sq. ft. | 15,000 BTU |
600 sq. ft. | 18,000 BTU |
4. Budget
Your budget plays a significant role in determining the quality of your air conditioner. Higher budgets allow for the purchase of the best, most efficient, and quietest units.
However, window air conditioners are generally more affordable than central AC systems. While they may not last indefinitely, it is common for wear and tear to begin after about five years, particularly for window units.
Cheaper units often wear out faster than pricier ones. Therefore, it is advisable to choose a unit with a moderate price range, typically between $400 and $700, to ensure it lasts for more than eight years.
5. Wi-Fi connectivity
As we are getting advanced day-by-day, it becomes beneficial to have Wi-Fi connectivity in air conditioners. Look for air conditioners with built-in Wi-Fi, this will make it much simpler and easier than operating your AC unit remotely. However, It is beneficial (but unnecessary).
6. Read consumer reviews
Consumer ratings and reviews will tell you the most about the reliability, performance and customer service of that particular window air conditioner or whatever product you are purchasing.
So be sure to take some time to read their reviews before actually making your purchase. This will help you narrow down your options and ensure that you find something that best suits your needs.
And let me tell you that all the window ac units in this list have a rating above 4.0, and I have also provided you with a review of all the units by using them personally.
What makes a Window Air Conditioner noisy?
If your window air conditioner has gotten noisier, it’s important to identify the cause before troubleshooting. Here are common reasons for the increased noise.
1. The size of the unit
Window air conditioners are available in different sizes, and the size of the window air conditioner is a huge factor when it comes to the causes of noise from a window air conditioner. It has a big impact.
A unit that is too small for the room will be unable to provide the necessary cooling, and this will cause the compressor to work harder than usual, and will result in a louder noise from the AC unit.
2. The age of the unit
Age is often the main culprit behind a noisy window air conditioner. Over time, normal wear and tear can cause increased noise. If your unit is older than 8-12 years, it may be time to consider replacing it with a quieter model.
3. The type of compressor
The compressor plays a vital role in the noise level of a window air conditioner. It can be a major contributor to the noise issue.
The type of compressor in your unit determines its noise level. Single-speed compressors are often noisier, emitting a loud buzzing sound as they frequently turn on and off to maintain temperature.
In contrast, variable-speed compressors operate more quietly as they adjust the temperature gradually by ramping up and down.
4. Fan motor
Another common factor contributing to noise in window air conditioners is the fan motor. The fan motor’s role is to circulate air over the evaporator coil, which cools the air before releasing it into the room.
As the fan motor ages, it can develop wear and tear, resulting in a loud hum or buzzing noise. This noise is often most noticeable when the unit is initially turned on or when it’s running at its highest speed.
How to make a Window AC quieter?
Here are some tips to make your noisy window AC quieter.
1. Consider choosing a big window unit ac unit and run it low settings
Imagine you bought a window AC unit that’s too small for your room. When you turn it on to cool down, you’ll be disappointed to hear a lot of noise. Here’s why:
When a window AC unit is too small for the room, it has to work harder to cool the space. It runs at high fan speeds and pushes itself to the limit. This extra effort creates more noise.
Basically, the undersized unit has to spin the fan faster to try and cool the room, which makes a lot of noise.
To avoid this, choose a window AC unit that is slightly bigger than your room size and run it on low settings and let the magic happen.
2. Clean the filter regularly
Well, I have literally mentioned it hundreds of times in my posts. This will literally make a huge difference in the noise level of your window.
Here’s the deal: when your AC filter is clogged, it puts a major strain on the unit. It’s like asking a tired athlete to sprint uphill.
As a result, your AC has to work harder and longer to cool the room, which will increase the noise levels.
3. Maintain Your Window AC Regularly
Regular maintenance is important to keep your air conditioner running quietly. Taking the time to maintain your AC unit can help extend its lifespan and keep it operates more quietly than before.
Neglecting the maintenance can cause your unit to freeze up and may also cause your ac smell fishy and other odors.
4. Avoid Running your Window AC on High
As mentioned earlier, running your Window AC unit on high can increase noise levels. So, try running it on a lower setting that is ideal to cool your room effectively and also try using a fan to circulate the cool air around the room. Trust me, it can work wonders.
5 Clean your Condenser Coils
Look, dirty condenser coils can reduce the efficiency of your Window AC unit and cause it to work harder, which increases noise levels. That is why it is important to clean the condenser coils and keep them clean.
By following these tips, you can make your Window AC unit quieter and more efficient.

Quietest Window Air Conditioners: FAQs
I can understand how difficult it can be to choose the best quiet window ac for your needs. That’s why we’ve put together an FAQ guide to help you learn more about window air conditioners and choose the one that’s right for you.
Here, I’ll answer some of the most common questions about window air conditioners. read on..
Q1. How long can a Window Air conditioner last?
Ans: Based on insights from 977 window AC owners, the average lifespan of a window air conditioner is 10 years and 1 month. However, it’s worth noting that 33.1% of respondents reported their units lasting between 8 to 10 years, while 40% mentioned a lifespan of more than 10 years. The longest reported lifespan was 35 years.
Q2. Do window Ac units use a lot of electricity?
Ans: It depends on the size of the unit you have, the number of hours you operate it, and the climate in your area. In general, the larger the window air conditioner, the more electricity it consumes. A smaller unit may use as little as 500-700 watts, while larger models may draw up to 1,500 watts of power.
Q3. Can I use a window AC without a filter?
Ans: No, you can’t use window ac without a filter. Using a window AC without a filter can cause serious damage to the unit, as it allows dust and other particles to accumulate in the unit and destroy its performance over time.
Q4. Can a window unit cool multiple rooms?
Ans: Yes, window air conditioners can cool multiple rooms. But it depends on the size of the unit. A window air conditioner is capable of cooling one room at a time. If you want to cool multiple rooms, a higher-BTU (British Thermal Unit) window unit will be necessary.
